Why our jewellery weighs so little
One of our statement necklaces weighs less than a pair of metal earrings. It's the main reason people come back.
Ask anyone why they don't wear a pair of earrings they love, and the answer is almost never about looks. It's that they're heavy, they pull at the earlobe, and after four hours they hurt.
Cured polymer clay has a density of around 1.2 grams per cubic centimetre. Brass sits at 8.5 and silver at 10.5. For the same volume, one of our flowers weighs seven times less than the same flower made in brass.
That changes what we can design. A twelve-flower statement necklace in metal would be unwearable; in clay, it weighs about as much as a button.
Where we do use metal is where strength and skin contact matter: clasps, hooks and chains, in surgical or stainless steel. There, the weight is negligible and durability isn't up for debate.
It's the number one reason someone comes back to buy again, not because the second piece is prettier, but because they actually wore the first one.
